This week has been art week and the class have been involved in creating many different styles and mediums of art. This year we were challenged to create art based on the key areas of learning in History, over the course of the year.

This was a great challenge, however it did mean that Year 4 had to create three different canvases:

  1. Ancient Egyptians
  2. Roman Empire
  3. Amelia Earhart

They did a fantastic job painting hieroglyphics, using newspaper to collage Amelia’s airplane and using their sketching skills for the Romans. The class also had the chance to take part in some multiplication art, focusing on the designs of Paul Klee and Waldorf.

Alongside this, they also completed their Fishbourne Roman Palace recounts, with much moaning about aching hands, as they had written so much!

Maple also had their last Forest School this week, where they made pulleys and had the chance to play Fox and Fawn.

The children have been fantastic this half term and I hope that you all get a good rest over the break.

Take care.

Maple have had another very busy week!

On Monday we all visited Fishbourne Roman Palace and got to explore the artifacts, take part in Roman life workshops, gaze at the mosaics and even meet a Roman Soldier. The children were exceptionally well behaved and learnt a lot about what it was like to live like a Roman!

On Wednesday we were lucky enough to have a cricket taster session, where the children had the opportunity to try out their throwing, batting and fielding skills.

In maths, the children have continued to explore decimals finding out what makes a whole and how this links to our learning of number bonds, earlier in the school. The children are also doing lots of times table practice, looking for patterns in the times tables.

In English, we have started to plan our recounts based on our trip to Fishbourne. The children have created a PhotoStory and have looked at using different sentence structures to support their writing. We have also looked at the prefixes – auto, super and anti, and how they change the meaning of the root word. As well as learning more about standard English.

Next week we will be:

  • Exploring the art that can be made using times tables
  • Writing, editing and publishing our recounts
  • Creating lots of history based art
  • PE on Tuesday
  • Last Forest School session on Thursday.

We hope you have a fantastic weekend.

Recently Mrs Dallyn and Mr Galvin are talking about the benefits of Forest School. Forest School is a forest that the children get to go to. Children like playing there even though they could get injured and hurt. They may even get a bruise. Everybody and can get fresh air. This argument is about if we should keep Forest School or if it should be stopped.

Forest School has been argued to have many benefits its children. Firstly children like Forest School because of the playing and activities but it’s not just about that. You could get fresh air and get to explore. Secondly the forest gives the children a lot of exercise. It’s good because children get a lot of time outside and in the fresh air. On the other hand Forest School should be stopped because it could be very cold and could cause children to get ill. The children could get wet from the river. Furthermore they could get muddy if they fall over in the mud, or they could get injured if they fall into prickly things like twigs. The children might be found in a dangerous place. They could also get lost or get too close to the fire and could get a little bit burnt.

In conclusion Forest School has been argued about keeping it and stopping it. It’s fun for the children to play there and get lots of energy and fresh air. The children have some nice hot coco and do activities at the river or at the top. It’s really fun for the children to explore the forest. The children like building things like rafts at the river or making swings. I hope you agree with my opinion for Forest School.

What a week Maple have had!

This week we have been learning about decimals and how to divide a whole number by 10 and 100. The class have got really good at the vocabulary associated with decimals. We have also been studying the myth of Romulus and Remus. We have looked at this to discover how Rome was created and to understand the importance of knowing how to sequence a story.

The class have also had the opportunity to discover why the Romans invaded Britain, looking at raw materials, slaves, power, ambition and revenge. Created electrical safety posters, as part of our work on electricity and took part in Forest Schools. They also had the chance to work with Mr Meaney from the Weald in a Tri-Golf tournament. There are some very talented golfers in the class.

Next week we have:

  • Monday – Trip to Fishbourne Roman Palace
  • Finding out about life as a Roman Soldier
  • Learning more about Pentecost
  • Decimals
  • Planning a recount based on our trip to Fishbourne.

Have a great weekend.

Recently, Mr Galvin and Mrs Dallyn have been having a disagreement about Forest School. Forest School allows children to explore nature and go into rivers. It teaches children basic survival skills. On the other hand some parents and children don’t see the benefits of Forest School. They think it is dangerous and a waste of time. This argument will be a balanced argument looking at the positive and negative of Forest School.

Forest School lets the children get a lot of fresh air. This is a positive because it is good for the mind and body. Alternatively. It lets the children be more independent. They have the freedom to be creative and build lots of things.

On the other hand, it can be dangerous for the children as they can fall over and break some bones. Furthermore, not all children like to go outside this causes them to be angry, anxious and upset.

In conclusion Forest School has a lot of positives and negatives for the children at Petworth Primary. One positive is that it is good for the mind and body. Although it can make people anxious and upset. In my opinion, I can see the positives to Forest School because it’s good to work outside together as a team. I hope you have enjoyed reading my argument and have your own opinion.

It’s fun! The best things are learning new things about the forest! Forest school has been argued about to have benefits for children firstly kids learn new things like survival skills they learn how to build forest school is good because you can learn new things such as nature.

It’s also good to get fresh air its healthy and good for you on the other hand forest school doesn’t have access to hand sanatiser witch, leads to people being ill that also means getting complaints from the illness. Also it can be very cold at some days and when it’s cold they get ill and miserable and grumpy. Also it can be dangerous because when it’s windy some trees could fall down.

In conclusion forest school has some positives and negatives one negative is that you can get hurt.  One positive is when you get fresh air it’s good for you and healthy as well and you can concentrate for longer.

Recently Mrs Dallyn and Mr Galvin have been arguing about stopping Forest school in the last few weeks. Mr Galvin wants to stop Forest school but Miss Dallyn doesn’t want to stop Forest school. Forest school allows you to go into the river, make dens, and roast marshmallows and lots of fun. `

Forest school has been argued to have many benefits. Firstly we can get exercise, fresh air and have lots of fun. You can do sawing and make lots of things. It helps children to work together. Although some people don’t want to do Forest School.

However some people argue Forest school should be stopped because it can make people get a cold and become really ill. Many get grumpy and miserable and they won’t have any fun. In addition people can break bones when they are at Forest school. This is why some people think we shouldn’t have Forest school.

In conclusion, Forest school can have good and bad things. One good thing is you can have a lot of exercise and fresh air. One bad thing is you and break bones and get really ill. In my opinion, I think forest school should still go ahead because it gives you fresh air, exercise and you can go in the river whilst having brilliant fun. I really hope forest school stays. Thank you for taking the time reading my argument.

Recently Mr Galvin and Mrs Dallyn have been arguing about the pros and cons of forest school is an opportunity to interact with and the environment inside of school. Those in favour say that forest school is good for children because fresh air and exercise which is essential for a healthy body. Nevertheless, others in opposition say it is bad because there is no access to hand sanitation which can cause illness. This balanced argument will be about the benefits and negatives of forest school.

This first paragraph will be about the positives of forest school, firstly supporters argue that it is good because they get to learn outside it is great because you get more space to express yourself. You get fresh air it is good for you (helps concentration) they also learn survival skills which can help if lost.

Furthermore the next statements are about whether forest school should be included in schools across England. Firstly there is no access to hand sanitation (explained in the introduction) and secondly they are in the cold for an hour or more and the cold can make it less enjoyable, this can also cause illness.

To conclude this piece of writing about the recent events and arguments about the benefits of forest school in my own opinion I think schools for numerous reasons including they get to play outside and still learn.  I hope you able to make a decision with the reasons given in the text.

Balanced Argument about Forest School by Layla

Recently, Mr Galvin has said that forest school should be stopped but on the other hand, Mrs Dallyn thinks that forest school allows children to be free and explore the forest this is a balenst argument for forest school But Mr Galvin thinks it should be banded because he thinks it’s a waste of time. Forest School is when you go to the forest after lunch in school, we love to play in the river and on the logs.

Forest School has been argued to have many benefits to children. Firstly, children get fresh air at Forest School, this may make children more alert and give them vitamin D. Secondly, lots of people love to play ‘hide and seek’, also to go down to the river and go by the riverside on the stepping stones.

On the other hand, Forest School can get really cold. This is negative for the children as they can become grumpy and miserable. This can also lead to parents complaining about illnesses.

In conclusion, Forest School has many positives and negatives. One positive is that it gives children fresh air and free time, also to explore the wild. However, you can damage yourself on trees and logs. Forest School should stay to allow children to experience Forest School. Also, most people love it. I think it should still be running. Hopefully, you will agree with my argument because forest school is really good for children because the fresh air is good for their body’s.
